    Re: Dark Day

I support the army and our troops cuz I spent time eating dirt for Uncle Sam as well...but I don't support the exploitation of our troops(whether they perceive it as that or not) by a government leader that could give 2 $hizs and a frick about them.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

    Re: Dark Day

geez... here I thought a "dark day" was a play on words.

"Yes many nations fear Bush because he will pull the trigger, ..." Really? REALLY???? Rem. a few years ago when the "war" was all over TV? And the Scud Stud gave us nightly updates? What happened there? "WAR" was never declared, Nat. Guardsmen are being sent overseas 2-3-4 times, and bin Laden has been captured and is being punished by being forced to watch 24-hour loops of Howard the Duck and All in the Family.

oh, wait.... bin Laden ISN'T in custody? We've been after ONE GUY for SEVEN YEARS ... no, wait... not we ... BUSH. And other countries are afraid of him? DUDE, I want some of whatever you're smokin'!

The idiocy of this forum amazes me day in and day out. If anyone truly believes that a President has the ability to single-handedly devastate a country then you need to seriously sit down and shut the [censored] up whilst getting a clue.

And to the "dark days a comin'" people in this thread, I think the right place for you is on the front line. Grunts need to do grunt work, I do think.

Funny - I felt the same way with the results of the last election.</div></div>

all except the leopard spots part. We already knew what we were getting last time, yet the American people voted for him.

They are afraid of his ignorance, not him being a great leader. I want someone who will think something like war, completely through before he even begins to pull the trigger on it. War should be a last resort, when all other options are gone . The world, for the most part, likes Obama because they think he is smart and wont drop a troops and a bomb on them if he thinks they looked at him funny. I know Mccains back ground with foreign policy, but that doesnt mean he would be best for Commander in Chief. He has a very bad temper and that will get in the way of rationality 9 times out of 10.

    Re: Dark Day

To branch off your point...Bush will send the military anywhere--and exhaust US resources state-side to fight wars he deems necessary. So, in the long run--we may win the actual on-ground war after a long time engagement w/many casualties, but in the continual war that's waged across the world for power & prestige--we're being weakened due to a crap economy and massive amounts of foreign-held national debt.

If Obama will take the military out of other countries, build it back up and let these soldiers rest while he tries to rebuild the economic structure of our nation and get us out of debt--guess what? You still have that "strong military" that intimidates other countries, plus you're back to being a world economic power instead of a laughing stock with a ton of debt.

"Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Teddy Roosevelt's words didn't mean that you go out looking for wars to fight and handicap your nation economically in the meantime (i.e.--talk a bunch of crap and swing that big stick around 'til you damage everything in sight). Instead--his words moreso meant to let people know you're not afraid to fight, but be diplomatic and try to fix the problems we have with words first. Keep that military power in your back pocket as a tool to make people listen and come to the table for compromise.

Bush did the former interpretation, here's hoping Obama can do the latter as Teddy Roosevelt meant it.

Even at this sad state, we are still a strong economic power globally. China is about the only market really stronger than us and you sure wouldn't want to live there.

But we're not where we should be. We are still a powerful global nation, but we're not doing anything right now to keep our spot or to make sure we're always striving to be the world leader as we should be.

The point is--we shouldn't be second to China. We shouldn't be struggling like this.

I don't disagree, even though we are still the leader in Western world economies. Even with the Euro's "strengthening" Iceland is about bankrupt, Britain, France, Germany, and Italy all are much farther down the crapper than we are.

Our unemployment will probably hit 7-7.5% at peak, but most European countries are around 10% annually.

Got to look at the population sizes though man. If one of their countries is 10% unemployed, that's still less net people unemployed than 7-7.5% in the US. We kill them in sheer #'s when you take the % out (unless we're talking about China or India, then all bets are off). Also, we're more industrialized than a lot of the other nations in the world, and are supposed to have more opportunities for employment. Sure, technology cuts jobs just due to needing less "manpower", but that's where a renewed focus on education to work with the technology that improves efficiency comes into major play.
